Tails from the Fishing Hole

This week I have had the opportunity to go fishing with my family. I am proud to say I finally caught one! Now that may not be exciting news to some of you, but when you have waited 31 years to catch a big fish, it means a little bit more. This week while I was fishing I was reminded of an important lesson. Sometimes it takes a while to catch the fish. You may sit for hours and even get a few bites, but it still make take a while to catch the big one.

This can be applied to our Christian walk also. When we are saved we don't automatically know everything there is to know about being a Christian. We may not even have a clue on where to start reading the Bible. We can become very discouraged if we began to think about all the things that are still wrong with us and let me tell you the Devil will remind you constantly of all the things you are doing wrong. Just like when we have to wait to catch that big fish, we also must wait and have patience as we learn God's Word. God doesn't expect us to be Sister Super Christian the first day after we are saved. He expects us to try our best and start growing closer to Him. If you mess up, ask God for His Forgiveness and keep trying. Remember, God loves you and His greatest desire is for you to love Him. He will forgive you if you will let Him.

  1. This is a very good analogy. It brought to mind Phillipians 3:12-14 "Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward that mark for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

I take comfort in knowing that He understands that I am going to mess up while I try to grow in my christian walk and is there to hold me up out of the mess that I end up in.
